As a workplace psychologist, I work with individuals, managers and HR professionals who want to develop a positive inclusive workplace culture where everyone experiences optimal performance, motivation, job satisfaction, and overall health and well-being. Conflict Coaching & Mediation helps you mitigate the risks associated with dysfunctional workplace relationships and conflict to achieve a more cohesive, productive and engaged workforce. This will free you up from spending all of your time on people issues, leaving you to do the work needed to proactively be successful in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world.
Conflict Coaching
Conflict Coaching is a one-on-one coaching method that helps clients better manage interpersonal differences. It focuses them on identifying and working on their goals about specific conflicts. We use the CINERGY™ conflict coaching model, developed by Cinnie Noble. This model incorporates coaching, conflict management and the principles of neuroscience. It is designed to help clients improve their conflict management skills and abilities according to each person’s individual and specific goals (www.cinergycoaching.com).
Shift Consulting uses the CINERGY Coaching model
A Typical Conflict Coaching session
During a coaching session, the coach facilitates an informal conversation with the participant to support, encourage and challenge them in relation to the conflict. Using the CINERGY Coaching model, the coach uses a variety of coaching techniques to help the individual to:
- clarify their conflict goals
- foster insights about the intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics of the conflict
- consider the perspective of the other person/persons involved in the conflict
- explore options about how to manage the conflict
- develop practical skills to implement conflict strategies
Our Conflict Coaching typically occurs over three to six sessions with the aim of identifying opportunities to better manage existing and future conflict situations.
Transformative Mediation
Transformative Mediation facilitates an agreed way to move forward without the need for expensive workplace investigations and Fair Work referrals. Shift Consulting’s mediation helps people who have interpersonal difficulties to manage those difficulties between themselves. A Shift Consulting mediator is the neutral third person who encourages those in the conflict to talk to each other about the issues.
Conflict resolution moves parties from a focus on past events to a future focus
A typical mediation process
The first step is for the mediator to meet with each party separately. During these separate meetings, the mediator asks each person for an overview of the situation as they see it and discus what will happen during mediation.
The mediation process itself is flexible. The mediation process involves the mediator helping the parties to identify their needs and concerns, clarify past events, develop options and make decisions about future actions. Although the mediation process is simple, the challenge is to move parties from a focus on past events to a future focus. Transformative mediation can effect much deeper changes in people and their interpersonal relationships, thus transforming the individuals and the relationship between them can transform individuals.
NB: The Shift Consulting mediator facilitates in such a way that the parties themselves are guided to identify the real problem and then create and agree upon an outcome that meets their needs.
